Week of June 22, 2020

On June 22, 2020 - Peter Stoff has arrived. The work on the ceiling in the ballroom is beginning. He has started to lay out the template. Here is a sneak peak of some of the figures that will go on the ceiling. Does anything or anyone look familiar? We are so excited to see this happen. We really didn’t think it was possible so soon. But we’ve learned to shift priorities when it makes sense to... and this makes so much sense.

Ben has had to fumigate the room so that tiny little insects don’t stick to the paint

Pouncing is an art technique used for transferring an image from one surface to another. A pounce pattern is made. The pattern is usually paper and holes are pushed through the paper with a wheel that has points on it.

On June 23, 2020 - The technique in action!

On June 24, 2020 - A hard day’s work.

On June 25, 2020 - Work on the roof of the old laundry continues in this terrible heat. We are so close to a water tight roof. Next steps will be to gut the interior and start planning out the best use for the space.

Nicky has rediscovered a path through the massive holly growth. It’s meant to connect the gîtes with the orchard and also create a hideaway spot for Max. Hidden away, waiting to be uncovered is this plinth with its flower bowl knocked over on its side. The plinth seems to be made of metal.

Can anyone guess what this is? The newest addition to the Joli Bois “essential tool kit.”

On June 26, 2020 - Sneak peak of some of the painting being done on a lion’s head.

On June 28, 2020 - Today I was brave enough to climb the scaffolding and keep Peter company whilst he painted our lady with the lions. I filmed a bit and chatted and it was lovely and terrifying at the same time. Sitting on a plastic garden chair 25 feet up in the air feeling the shaking of the platform is an experience that I’m not sure I need to re-experience. But I now feel part of the painting of the ceiling. I was able to add a fold and input into colour choices. It was just brilliant.

Till next week!
